Capitalism is on the ropes. It’s been pummeled by the highly publicized greed on Wall Street. The one-percenters have been fingered as the bad guys wielding unprecedented economic power, and not always in the best interest of society.
Capitalism seems to be further weakened with every whiff of smelling salts the government gives it with bailouts. And the only people in its corner appear to be the righteous Tea Party or the big hearted, but offish, Occupy movement.
Just when you think the heroism in capitalism has tapped out, an inner strength is emerging. It’s called Conscious Capitalism. Practitioners embrace the philosophy that corporate performance is considerably enhanced when you better lives and strengthen communities ahead of profits.
Conscious Capitalism has come to metropolitan Phoenix. Scott and Kyle McIntosh, founders of MAC6, a new Conscious Capitalism incubator in Tempe, AZ, are evangelist for capitalism as a force for good.
“The recession and the rise of crony capitalism have shaken society’s faith in the capitalistic system. Even before the current (and continuing) crisis, capitalism was under attack from a society ambivalent about free markets. I complained (about politics), but a penchant for learning and action led to discovery and higher consciousness about the path I’d already followed for 30+ years.”
– Scott McIntosh
Inaugural MAC6 “incubees” include:
- ALPHASTRIPE: A global, online networking platform for military service members, their families, civilians and humanitarian organizations to share wartime and conflict-zone stories to save history, make connections and heal.
- Ignite!: The eHarmony of career and business, matching individuals around the world with their ideal role and company.
- KVZ: A fully integrated sports apparel design and manufacturing company with the mission to capitalize on “Made in America” as a competitive advantage.
- Live 3V: A company dedicated to inspiring people to live their lives to the fullest through a proprietary program called Whole Life Living.
- Ella’s Monitor: A revolutionary hospital grade, low-cost device for use in the home that will save infants from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome
We are excited to be embedding our agency advertising and marketing services at MAC6 to help ignite the growth of these early-stage conscious capitalists and help them make a long-term impact on society. We are proud to have guided MAC6 in its brand story development, and the creation of its website and marketing materials.
Park&Co fully embraces MAC6’s brand ideal: Advocating Capitalism as a Force for Good.
What is your view on conscious capitalism?

I am so excited you wrote about this. I have been following this movement for some time and I even wrote a blog about it after doing some research for a school project. (My thoughts on the movement, here: http://tiffanyabrown.wordpress.com/2011/11/18/megatrends-in-business-the-rise-of-conscious-capitalism)
I think that this is a valid paradigm for business and just yesterday in fact, I read an article about the merging of for-profit and non-profit enterprise here:
http://www.forbes.com/sites/dorieclark/2012/10/28/capitalism-is-changing-are-you-ready/
The author writes: “The new capitalism, driven by emerging markets’ ‘perfect storm of digital technology, rapid growth, and a young population that all reinforce one another,’ will look different in a variety of ways. Notably, the lines between nonprofit and for-profit enterprises will blur, and companies may undertake more of what’s currently known as ‘corporate social responsibility.’
Personally I’m all for it and I think it’s a valid theory that’s still in the process of being worked out.
In case you don’t already know, there’s a very dynamic group on LinkedIn filled with highly educated thought leaders from around the globe who regularly discuss these sorts of issues. If you haven’t joined it yet, find the “Conscious Capitalism” group and get involved in some of the discussions!

Thanks for your comment, Tiffany. It was great opening last night for MAC6, and very inspiring the quality of business professionals getting more involved in pragmatic conscious capitalism. Glad to see you’re furthering its mission in Nevada. Keep up the great work.

Great article, BTW. Now there’s yet another book on my plate to read.

“Capitalism is on the ropes. It’s been pummeled by the highly publicized greed on Wall Street.”
This is not news. Unfortunately, those people who are taking the abuse, don’t care. As long as they get what they want and continue to wield the power to get it, nothing will change.
Agree with the movement. Agree with the sentiment. Don’t really believe that change is coming, unless there is a revolution. And, I am convinced that one is on the horizon
